Socrates: The unexamined life is not worth living.
Jared: So, if I didn’t examine my life, I should die?
S: No. If you didn’t examine your life, you should have considered that your life was not worth living.
J: So, what if I did examine my life, but I didn’t examine it properly?
S: What do you mean, ‘Didn’t examine it properly?’
J: You said that we had to examine our lives. Examine them how?
S: You need to read all my dialogues to find out about that stuff.
J: Imagine I can’t read. Explain it to me.
S: Well, you need to consider things like courage. And…
J: And?
S: There’s lots of stuff you need to consider. Virtue, justice, goodness, and that.
J: If the unexamined life is not worth living, and I considered that my life was worth living, do I get to decide how to examine it?
S: Er, well. Er, Yes. Yes, you do.
J: So what would I have to do to get to decide whether examining it in the first place was important?
S: Will you please go away, and stop annoying me?
J: Nah. I’m just getting warmed up.
