I want to run an event at Darling Reads in Horbury

Dear Grist Poets:

I want to organise a reading to promote We’re All In It Together in my local independent bookshop, Darling Reads in Horbury.

Michael Stewart suggested I should shout out to the whole lot of you, and see what response I get.  (Jimmy Andrex: if you don’t join in, you will need a note from your mother.)

The provisional date for this event is Thursday 30 June.

Darling Reads is in the centre of a village called Horbury, which is a suburb of Wakefield.  It is a few minutes drive from Junction 40 of the M1.  The nearest railway station is Wakefield Westgate, but if you are travelling from the West, the easiest route is to get a train to Dewsbury, and then get the 126 or 127 bus, which stops almost on the doorstep of the venue.

There happen to be at least two excellent pubs nearby.  Beers on offer include Taylor’s Landlord, in the utmost excellence of condition, for less than £4 (GBP four pounds) a pint.

I can’t give you details of the format of the event, until I know who wants to participate.

Darling Reads is a small venue.  If we have more than 5 readers, we are going to need to transfer the event to Cluntergate Community Centre, which is just across the road.  That is a problem I would like to have.

I want to know your enthusiasm, and your availability.  I don’t want any complaints about travelling expenses.  I have sorted a source of funding that should cover travelling expenses for at least 5 poets, including standard class rail travel, buses, and taxis, return.  There are one or two among you for whom overnight accommodation might also be affordable under this arrangement.

I want you to come to Horbury, and put Darling Reads on the contemporary spoken word map.

Hit me.

Regards,

William Thirsk-Gaskill

president of Black Horse Poets and Wakefield Word.
